How much screen time should your children have?

I’m a terrible one for staring at screens. Smartphones, tablets, laptops… I’m doing it all the time. Look, I’m doing it now. So are you. We’re looking at a screen. It’s pretty harmless… or is it? Are we, as George Monbiot says, screening ourselves off from reality?  And are we as dads teaching our children bad habits by doing so?

Some dads don’t let their children have a second of screen time, whether it’s a TV screen or an interactive one. I don’t go that far, but I’ve met children aged eight or nine who literally cannot look away from a screen if there’s one in front of them.

So what do you do? Do you limit your children’s screen time or do you chuck them a tablet whenever they’re getting antsy? Do you gradually increase it as they get older or do you change the WiFi password to make sure they do their jobs around the house?
